12/18/20 Virtual Learning Special Ed. FAQ

Virtual Learning from January 4-8, 2020 Special Education Frequently Asked Questions

  • If my student was scheduled to be evaluated during the week of January 4 to January 8, 2021?
Given in-person instruction will not be conducted in North Penn school district buildings during the week, all in-person evaluations will be rescheduled when students return to North Penn buildings.
  • If my child is currently receiving in-home support, what happens during the week ?
The proactive decision was made as a preventative measure to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. If the families ensure that they have met the Health and Safety protocols for in-home support, paraprofessionals can report to in-home sites to support student learning.
  • If my child received in-home support prior to returning to the school building for instruction, can they resume in-home support?
Given the short turnaround time and staffing considerations, it would not be feasible to resume in-home support for the week.
  • Will my child continue to receive the related services outlined in his/her IEP?
Yes, all related services will be delivered using a tele-therapy approach. If families adhere to the Health and Safety guidelines for in-home services and already receiving in-home related services, in-home services will be provided during this week. Your child’s case manager can provide you with the scheduled times for your child’s services.
  • What do I do if I feel my child needs a modified schedule due to them having a difficult time following the full day virtual schedule?
Reach out to your child’s special education case manager.
  • Will job training continue for post 12 in person?
Students will not be attending job sites for the week, and students will return to virtual learning for job training in the afternoon.
